Student demonstrates strong command of use of various types of punctuation (semicolons, dashes, parenthesis, commas, and end punctuation) and correctly capitalizes throughout. Spelling errors are minimal.

10 pts Full Marks Strong command of all conventions. Spacing is correct for dashes and semicolons. Capitalization is correct throughout. Student demonstrates strong understanding of convention of focus (e.g. semicolons or dashes).
8.5 pts meets A few errors in conventions (use of semicolon, dashes, or commas), but none in capitalization or end punctuation. Student demonstrates average understanding of use of convention of focus. Some of the punctuation marks of focus might be incorrectly used (for example, a dash used in the wrong spot) but student is able to use it correctly at least 70% of the time.
7.5 pts almost meets More than two significant errors, including errors in punctuation or capitalization. Student demonstrates some command of convention of focus (for example, semicolon or dash) and uses the convention correctly in at least half of the practice activity.
6.5 pts needs development Student has significant errors. Student demonstrates minimal understanding of use of convention of focus (for example, semicolon or dash). Student uses the new convention correctly in about 30-40% of of the practice activity.
3 pts partial credit Too many errors in the use of the convention of focus (example: dashes do not look like dashes or all dashes are incorrectly placed in the practice sentences). Student is encouraged to watch instructional video.
0 pts No Marks Too many errors or too little work completed. Student does not seem to understand convention of focus at all OR sentences are not capitalized or do not contain periods.
