Internships & Apprenticeships

 SLCSD Custodial Technician Apprenticeship

The school district has always employed students’ sweepers, but we will now have a program to get those students more trained in multiple trades, and apprenticeship school credit at the same time. The students that choose to be part of the program this semester will start as a district sweeper, and they will get Work Credit. Next semester we plan to begin a program for them to learn trade skills each week through workshops and practical learning if they choose to be a part of it. If they do go through the full program, they will start getting apprenticeship credit. They will be getting paid for their sweeper duties as well as the workshops. The program will teach valuable skills and be a great resume booster. We are looking for students to start ASAP so the sooner I get students in to apply the better. Flyer is attached.

STADLER Rail Apprenticeship

For those of you who don’t know STADLER Rail is a train building company that we work closely with. They take on Student Apprentices each year for a 3 year program that starts senior year of high school and ends with an associate of applied science in advanced manufacturing from SLCC. Juniors can apply to the program if they are on track to graduate. In their senior year after they have gotten into the program students will spend half of their school time (all of A or B bay) at STADLER building train cars or circuit boards under a mentor and the other half of their time at school. Students do get school credit, and a fair paycheck in their first year. The next two years at SLCC work similarly to the first except they will have gotten a raise and they will be going to class at SLCC. After all three years they will receive a degree for free, all while getting paid. There are options for full time at that point, but they are under no contract. Any interested juniors need to come see me to apply. If you have questions about it let me know.

Riley Jensen, West High School, currently has a few internships opening that he would like to fill. If you are interested let Riley or myself know.
